Anna Owens is a singer/songwriter native to Indianapolis, who fell in love with writing and singing songs about Jesus after performing at a local record shop. No stranger to trials and tribulation, she never could put down the pen after that. Her unique style blurs the lines between genres like folk, rock & rap. Best described as a raw and guttural voice and a witness to God’s glory in the shadow of modern times.

1.What Inspires your work of art and when did you start?

I fell in love with writing music when I was around thirteen years old. I had a hobby of writing and singing privately, but a good defining moment was when I went and played at a local open mic for the first time (in front of an actual crowd). I remember shifting my mind to the lyrics I'd written about Christ, and the feeling of getting to deliver it to others felt confessional and kind of cathartic that felt really natural.

2.What was your most favorite performance?

Ha, this one's difficult. I'm not sure I have a favorite, actually. Each show proves to be unique, and there's been a lot of beautiful moments. If I have to pick one, I played at a summer camp I attended a few years ago. The room just lit up, but really I felt God's presence almost tangibly in every part. I mean, He's always present, but sensing it sure is nice. The speaker for the evening gave a word for me from the stage, I felt so honored and seen by God.

3.Who are your greatest Influences?

One, the Holy Spirit. Where all the best ideas come from. Secondly, my mom. She's a good sounding board in my life that I'm blessed to have. My family all inspire me in different ways. Third, I'm always listening to new music, scrolling Pinterest, or meeting new people.

4.What is your "Why" (What is the passion behind your art?)

Jesus is my why. He is the only hope, peace, freedom, and light... I don't see any reason to sing except because of, and for---God to be glorified. So, why? Because I believe in Him.

5.Give one positive affirmation, scripture for encouragement you would give to a fan or listener?

God sees you. Truly. Wherever it is you are. I find that when I know that I'm seen by Him, nothing else matters.
